The 2008 Guangdong Winter Camp and China tour will depart from Auckland on Sunday, 23 November 2008 and return to Auckland on Wednesday, 24 December 2008.

The Guangdong Winter Camp is organised with the assistance of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government and will be similar to previous years.

The activities at this Winter Camp include:

  • Cultural classes and activities which may include language studies, Chinese history, calligraphy, arts, singing, dancing and martial arts
  • Visits to participants’ ancestral village
  • Sightseeing and visiting other learning institutions
  • Meeting with local young Chinese youths.

Following the Camp there will be a tour of China including Hangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing and then 4 nights in Hong Kong before returning to New Zealand. Because of the difficulties in booking airline seats at the holiday peak period, there will be no optional extra nights available in Hong Kong this year.

The Winter Camp and China tour is limited to youths aged from 18 to 26 years old. Its price has been based on minimum of 20 people plus the tour manager (Janet Joe).

If participants wish to visit their ancestral village, they must complete the separate Ancestral Village Information Form as soon as possible after submitting the Application Form and $500 deposit.
